Alexander Volkanovski kickstarted legendary run with brutal KO at UFC 232

Alexander Volkanovski has undeniably proven himself as a legend of mixed martial arts, with 'The Great' beginning his incredible run to the pinnacle of the sport at UFC 232.

Before December 29, 2018, the Australian was just another featherweight prospect. But after that, his potential was clear for all eyes to see.

Alexander Volkanovksi destroyed Chad Mendes at UFC 232

American fans love an old-fashioned war, with both fighters in the cage giving everything to secure victory.

It's no surprise that they stood tall and watched Alexander Volkanovski and Chad Mendes exchange bombs at The Forum in Inglewood, California.

In an attempt to impress his beloved supporters, Mendes came out swinging in an attempt to take out his relatively unknown opponent.

Volkanovski demonstrated his potential, surviving the early blitz and even taking some spirited shots of his own.

However, it didn't take long for the American to land one of his signature blows, sending the Australian spiraling towards the canvas.

Refusing to give in, Volkanovksi fought back, got up and in return rocked his opponent, who then turned things around and began using his wrestling ability to drag the future champion to the ground.

But while Mendes was able to get the fight to the ground, he certainly couldn't keep it that way, with the Wollongong-born fighter getting up and connecting to the body with his left hand, followed by a right hand up top to set up an explosive stop .

The big win not only announced the talented athlete to the world, but also set the wheels in motion for his rise to the top of the featherweight division.

Now that he's cemented his place as one of the greatest 145-pounders to ever grace the octagon, Volkanovski clearly knows a thing or two about mixed martial arts.

In fact, his sublime fighting IQ was a major factor in the gifted athlete becoming so successful in the sport.
