
Alexander Volkanovski lost all vision in his left eye during the second round of his world title win last night.
The Australian defeated Diego Lopes through a unanimous decision at the Kaseya Center in Miami on Saturday night at UFC 314, but had to overcome a serious incident in round two. He was blinded in his left eye after he fell with a big blow, but seemed to get the eyesight back at a certain moment.
Volkanovski has now broken the curse that former champions older than 36 years cannot reclaim their belts. He wants to return to action quickly and loves a fight towards the end of the summer, with perhaps a third before the end of the years after 14 months on the sidelines.

After a huge gap between their striking skills during the first two rounds, with just a few seconds to go in the second -year stanza Alexander Volkanovski, Lopes was dropped. He also suffered a nasty cut, and for a short moment it seemed that the tide would turn against him.
Fortunately, he achieved calmness and continued on a route to a comfortable decision victory. However, he told Fox Sports Australia after the fact that his left eye was completely blinded when he was asked how serious he hurt.
“I completely lost the vision in my left eye,” he explained. “It was a good shot and then I couldn't see it. I tried to get it back and it was completely gone, came back slowly and most of the fight that I could see at least a slight blur that helped.
“It went from nothing so I went 'oh s -, this is not good', to a little fag [which shot caused it]. “

Although he had such a monumental health journey halfway through his first fight in 14 months, Volkanovski wants activities in 2025. When he was asked in the press conference after the fight for a fight in September, he claimed that it was too far away and that it might be his third competition of the year.
He returns from two vicious knockout losing to Ilia Topuria and Islam Makhakev in his last two trips that fans fear for his career. But it seems that he is not impressed by concern about his long-term health after an impressive comeback performance.
