However, the former UFC and ONE Championship titleholder quickly turned down the offer, saying he didn't need the money, upsetting Pantoja.

At the post-fight press conference he said: “Yes, that's crazy, because it's not about money. I don't fight for money; I fight to prove that I am the best of the best. I think everyone is here to do that. Of course you have to pay your bills and mortgages.

“We are here to find out who is the best of the best; that's what i did tonight. I'm super happy that the UFC is giving me money to defend this title. I can pay my bills and put my kids in a good place.

“But I don't just fight for money. Demetrious Johnson is not about money. It's about who is the best of the best.

'I say that because I see that he is retired. I don't know what his contact is, if he has anything that's keeping him from coming to the UFC.

“But it's about legacy, it's about seeing who is the best. This is why I live. I wake up every day to be the best.”
