As Liverpool prepare to take on Girona in the Champions League, there is still quite a bit of attention on the Reds' transfer activities.
Arne Slot could not have asked much more from his appointment this season, after gaining an early lead in the league and in Europe. Tuesday's trip to Spain is coming up, with Slot's men protecting the only remaining 100 percent record in the Champions League against opponents with just one win in the competition.
However, behind all this there are still questions about those three expiring contracts. There has been more buzz surrounding Mohamed Salah lately, with fans also holding back when it comes to discovering the longer-term futures of Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
But in addition, the Merseyside club have also paid close attention to Alexis Mac Allister's recent comments. Here are the latest lines from Mirror Football from across Anfield.
Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has spoken of his love for Spain and indicated he would like to move there one day, but insisted he is happy at Anfield. The Argentinian star joined the Reds from Brighton in 2023 and is under contract until 2028.
“Yes, why not?” Mac Allister told AS when discussing the possibility of a transfer. “It is a country that I love very much and I have visited it several times. It is very similar to Argentina mainly because of the language and culture. I would definitely like to play in Spain one day.”
However, one day doesn't mean right away. “At the moment I feel very comfortable with Liverpool and I am not thinking about what could happen in the future,” he added.
In the same publication, Mac Allister hinted that progress has been made when it comes to Trent Alexander-Arnold's future. Right-back Alexander-Arnold has also been linked with a move to Spain – specifically Real Madrid – out of contract in 2025.
“Hopefully Trent and Virgil can continue with us together with Salah,” said the South American. “Alexander-Arnold is crucial, as we saw against Manchester City when he came back from injury.
“Like Salah, he is in negotiations and hopefully he can continue in the team,” he added. The right-back has spent his entire career at Liverpool, but the ties with Real Madrid have not disappeared.
Naby Keita's move from Liverpool to Werder Bremen has not gone to plan and he could be on the move again. The midfielder joined the German club in 2023, but has not played since April and is completely frozen.
“I believe it is best for both parties to just look ahead and into the future, to see what good solutions Naby can find for himself and what solutions we can find without him,” said manager Ole Herner. The Guinea international was given an internal suspension at the end of last season, after being used only sparingly in his first season.
According to Bild, Keita is now tipped to join Ferencvaros on loan in January. The Hungarian club is fighting to defend its league title and at the time of writing is in the play-offs of the Europa League competition phase.
