
Liverpool -goalkeeper Alisson Becker explained why he was unable to attend the funeral of Diogo Jota, who died next to his brother Andre Silva in a car accident in Spain earlier this week.
Alisson, who has been teammates with Jota in Liverpool since 2020, placed an emotional tribute on Instagram and revealed that he was separated by an ocean of 'saying goodbye to someone he loved.
'I usually post things that make sense, but today nothing makes sense! Again, an ocean separates me from “saying goodbye” from someone I love! But I know that I am well represented by my clubmates! Alisson wrote, in addition to a black and white photo of himself, his wife Natalia, Jota, Jota's partner RUTE and their children together.
“For you, my friend @rutecfcardoso14, just know that you will never walk alone, we will be with you as soon as possible!”
Alisson described Jota – whose death was married less than two weeks after he and RUTE – was and added as a “great friend, father and husband”: “In a moment like this we can only bend for the sovereignty of God and receive grace and help in this time.”
He concluded his message by quoting the Bible Passage Presclesiastes 3: 1-8, who speaks that there is a time for each goal under heaven, a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cry and a time to laugh. '
Although Alisson could not be there personally, many of Jota's Liverpool teammates lived out and today the funeral service in Gondomar, Portugal, on Saturday.
Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Joe Gomez belonged to those who paid their respect, with Van Dijk and Robertson who wore flower tribute in the church.
Liverpool -Manager Arne Slot and various Portuguese internationals, including Bruno Fernandes, Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves, were also present and joined hundreds of mourning people who stood the streets to honor Jota, who scored 65 goals in 182 performances for the last season.
Jota was only 28 when he died. His brother was 25.
