Melbourne City coach Aurelio Vidmar acknowledges that he is on his care for the attacking threat of Melbourne Victory prior to the very first A-League Grand Final Meeting between the Crosstown rivals next weekend.
The side of Vidmar confirmed their progress to the seasonal collision on Saturday when a 1-1 draw with Western United completed a 4-1 total victory for City, which will achieve the victory after their 2-1 success over two legs against Auckland FC.
“It's a big final,” Vidmar told a press conference after the game. “You have to be ready. The best team will win.
“You rarely play badly in a grand finale and win it. So the team that performs close to their best will win. You can't think too far ahead.
“Let's hope it's a good game. Two good football teams. They have so much power in the front, we have defended so well this year.
“We also have a few things in the sleeve at the top. I think it should be an entertaining game for the fans.”
A 3-0 win in the first stage last week had given City about the draw and a 20th minute strike by veteran Full-back Aziz Behich went some hope for a Western United-Comeback, with Noah Botich that yielded a comfort to John Aloisi.
The result, in combination with the success of the Victory in Auckland, means that the two parties established in Melbourne will meet for the first time in the 14 seasons in the season, since City came to the competition in 2010 as Melbourne Heart.
“The stars will be tailored to football fans next week,” said Vidmar. “It will be a super week, we just have to enjoy it.
“Whatever our way comes, I am sure that many things will happen, but we will just try to stay as calm as possible and enjoy it. You can't shy away from it.
“Some will probably deal better than others, I think, but the message of mine will be normal to stay calm, enjoy it and not to put too much stress on yourself and be on your very best on the last day of the season.”
