Allegri vows to get AC Milan back to the top: The goal is Champions League!

The Rossoneri had turned to a serial winner Allegri after the club went to the worst competition infinishing in a decade – which led to the Axing of Sergio Conceicao after five miserable months that was in charge.

“The goal for this season is to return to the Champions League if a club like AC Milan has to play in Europe,” Allegri said reporters in Singapore, where his team will be confronted against Arsenal on Wednesday in a pre-season friendly.

“This is the only goal for me from the start. These are the games for which the team lives. We are not going to look back, but we are now looking forward to the future,” added 57-year-old Italian.

Milan ended the 2024/25 campaign in eighth place – abuse of the European qualification – and falls short in the Coppa Italia Final against Bologna.

Allegri was brought in in the aftermath to replace Conukicao at the helm of the club, which he previously managed from 2010 to 2014.

Allegri won the Scudetto in his first season that was in charge of Milan – the first of the club since 2004 – before he enjoys a dominant enchantment at Juventus, where he achieved five consecutive Serie A titles.

“It has been more than a decade since I first took the lead in Milan. The situation is now clearly different. A lot has changed, not only in Milan, but also in the football world,” he said.

“But the general goal remains the same, and that is to bring this club back to where it belongs, and that is the Champions League,” said Allegri.

He said that he will look at the recent signing of Luka Modric from Real Madrid to restore Milan's status under the European elite, where they are the sevenfold European champions.

At the age of 39, the Ballon d'Or winner 2018 still has a lot to offer, and Allegri will count on his wealth of experience and leadership to inspire the team.

“Modric is a proven champion that does not need an introduction. He is a role model, not only from the discipline, but also technical perspective,” said Allegri.
