Alonso announces Bayer04 exit at end of season ahead of expected Real return

Xabi Alonso has said that he will leave Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season prior to his expected return to Real Madrid as head coach.

In a press conference on Friday, the Leverkusen said: “This week the club and I agree that this will be my last two games as Bayer Leverkusen coach.

“This is a moment with mixed emotions. This is not a moment to talk too much and not to talk about the future.

“We want to say goodbye here on Sunday for some players, ourselves. It was the right time to announce it.”

Lastkusen won a competition and cup double under Alonso last season, the first Bundesliga title in the history of the club, which is just short of a remarkable unbeaten Treble with a defeat against Atalanta in the Europa League final.

Alonso, who won almost everything as a player at Real Madrid, will take over from his old boss Carlo Ancelotti in the Bernabeu after completing the campaign with Leverkusen, Sky reports in Germany.

The conversations of Ancelotti to become the next Brazilian head coach are holding on again, Sky Sports News reported earlier this week, with the Italian departure only a year after winning the Champions League and Laliga.
