Xabi Alonso refused to discuss his future as head coach of Bayer Leverkusen, while reports continue to connect him with a possible move to former Club Real Madrid.
Alonso, who spent five years with Madrid as a player, is recommended to replace Carlo Ancelotti when the Italian leaves the club at the end of the season.
Ancelotti himself has been associated with a potential role with the Brazilian national team, with the five -fold world cup winners without manager since he beat Dorival Junior.
De Leverkusen -Baas won five major awards during his time at Los Blancos, a trophy cabinet with one Laliga and Champions League title.
“My future? Nothing new to say, the answer remains the same. We have to wait,” said Alonso reporters prior to Leverkusen's Bundesliga trip to Freiburg on Sunday.
“Communication with the club is still good. There is clarity between everyone.”
Alonso has become one of the smartest young coaches that has emerged in recent years after his record-breaking campaign with Leverkusen in 2023-24.
The Spaniard led the club to their first Bundesliga title, became unbeaten in the German top flight and lifted the DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup.

Alonso has won 89 of his 137 games that are in charge of Leverkusen in all competitions (D30 L18), although this season fails in expectations.
Leverkusen is eight points behind leaders Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, and the side of Vincent Kompany may be able to conquer the title this weekend.
“It is still the second best season in the club's history and we want to continue to pursue this goal,” Alonso added.
Leverkusen plays away to a side of Freiburg that is fourth in the rankings and fighting for Champions League places, with the possibility to match an existing record that has long existed.
The Alonso team is indeed unbeaten in their last 32 road competition matches (W23 D9) and can be Bayern's record from 33 from 2012 to 2014 if they avoid the defeat.
“They have that opportunity and they will certainly be extra motivated. But that is no problem for us because it also motivates us a lot if we know that the other team is determined to beat us,” Alonso said.
“This battle is at the moment very exciting to see. In the remaining three games we only have Freiburg, (Borussia) Dortmund and Mainz as opponents fighting for European places. They will again be intense games for us.”
But the visitors can be without Nigerian attacker Victor Boniface, who scored 11 times in all competitions this season.
“He felt something in his thigh muscles yesterday and did not train today,” said Alonso. “We will see if he is available for Sunday.”
