Alonso says Real’s Antonio Rudiger reported racist incident from Pachuca player

Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso said that his defender Antonio Rudiger had complained about a racist incident at the end of the 3-1 Club World Cup victory on Sunday on Mexican Pachuca.

Rudiger was visibly angry after an argument with Pachuca's Gustavo Cabral after the last whistle and spoke with the Brazilian referee Ramon Abatti Abel.

Cabral denied that he had abused the German center-back racially.

When asked about the incident in the press conference after the game, Alonso said: “Toni told us something, we support Toni and we will see what is happening.

“I think the FIFA protocol is activated to investigate, but when it has happened, all measures must be taken and we support Antonio because it is something unacceptable.

“In football there is no tolerance for this, and when it happened, measures must be taken. This is what Antonio has told us and we believe him. It is being investigated now,” he said.

Cabral, 39, spoke after the game and said that his words were incorrectly interpreted by Rudiger.

The Argentinian said he had called the defender a “coward”, with the Spanish expression he used similar to another who is linked to racist abuse.

“The referee made racism – sign, but I told him the same all the time – (coward),” said Cabral.

Pachuca coach Jaime Lozano was also asked about the incident, but said he was not aware of what had happened.

“I just discovered it from you, you let me know, we didn't talk about it in the dressing room, I didn't talk about this with Cabral, I can't explain it because this is the first (I have heard) this news,” he said.

“It cannot be justified at all, but I will talk to him, I know him for a while and I have never heard of anything like Pachuca players. I cannot defend my captain free of charge, but I will talk to him about it,” he said.
