‘Always crying’ – Courtois ‘fed up’ of Atletico Madrid complaints

Thibaut Courtois is fed up with Atletico Madrid who complains about referee decisions after the controversial fine -shootout -winning of Real Madrid.

Real achieved their place in the quarterfinals with a 4-2 spot kick victory in Metropolitano Stadium on Wednesday after the draw ended with 2-2.

Julian Alvarez thought he had leveled the shootout on 2-2, only for VAR to rule the penalty after he touched the ball twice.

Diego Simeone was furious with the officials after the game and insisted that there was no perspective of the incident to support that decision.

Real goalkeeper Courtois, however, defended the competition officers and told former side Atletico to just accept the defeat.

“I am always fed up with that victim and I am always crying for things like that,” he told reporters.

“Referees do not want to benefit a team, neither in Spain nor in Europe, they saw it clearly and they called it that way.

“They are human, and with technology they clearly saw it.”

Connor Gallagher scored the only goal of the second stage after just 27 seconds, but neither of them could find a winner while the game went the distance.

Real's fourth fine -shootout -victory in the European Cup and Champions League is the majority of every club.

“If you win 1-0 in the first minute and do not go for the second, that is the fault of their game,” Courtois added.

“In the end it was a lottery. I felt that it was a double and I told the referee. It is not easy to see, and it's bad luck for them.”

Colleague Madrid player Dani Ceballos, who played no role in the draw, also seemed to take a wipe in Simeone on social media.

Ceballos shared a video of Simeone's earlier press conference, entitled “Cinema”, and accompanied it with an elevated hand moi.

Real has now beaten Atletico from the Champions League, including the final, five times – only Bayern Munich (seven times against Los Blancos) are eliminated more times by a single opponent.
