Amad Diallo reveals what he told Amorim before the boss put him in starting XI
Amad Diallo has provided insight into his elite mentality, which has seen him become a mainstay in Ruben Amorim's Manchester United squad. He confessed what he told the manager during their first training sessions together.
The 22-year-old impressed at the start of the season after being trusted on United's right wing. He scored in the second game of the season against Brighton, but was then dropped by Erik ten Hag.
The subsequent arrival of Amorim following the Dutchman's dismissal rejuvenated the club's weak squad and Amad has perhaps benefited more than any other player after starting every Portuguese match to date.
United's switch to a 3-4-3 formation has transformed the Ivory Coast international into a right-back. He played a leading role in the new position and received praise from his boss, teammates and experts alike.
Amad's relentless energy has seen him prove to be a crucial asset in both United's attack and defence. He assisted twice in the 4-0 defeat to Everton last weekend and was very effective in helping to secure a valuable clean sheet.
The youngster has transformed into one of the club's most consistent first-team stars since Amorim became United's youngest-ever Premier League manager and Amad revealed what he told the new head coach when he first spoke.
Revealing his willingness to play in any position asked of him, Amad defiantly told the club website: 'You can't just be focused on one position.
'Sometimes you can play as a defender, sometimes as a striker. Wherever the manager places me, I am ready to fight for the team.
'I have no problem playing as a right winger or not. 10, I can play anywhere. “Like I said to the manager, if you need me as a goalkeeper, I'm willing to do my best,” he added.
Amad is among a number of players who have been individually praised by Amorim, who has praised the attacking full-back for his commitment to his disciplined approach.
Now Amorim will reportedly hold talks with Amad Diallo in a bid to convince the Man United winger to commit his future to the club.
“He was very good again,” Amorim said of Amad after United's win over Everton last weekend.
“He's in a great moment, but that moment starts with the group. So I just use Ruud's [van Nistelrooy] working with Amad.
'Amad was very good defensively and very good offensively and he must continue to play like that.
“You could feel at the end of the match that he was very tired, so we have to deal with that as well because he is increasing the physical skills,” he added.
