Mohamed Salah ‘grows frustrated’ with Liverpool as his contract offer goes unanswered
Mohamed Salah is said to be open to a one-year contract extension with Liverpool but is growing frustrated with the club's handling of the situation.
The Egyptian's contract expires this summer and the player has spoken out about the lack of talks over an offer to keep him at Anfield. Liverpool are yet to detail their position on their striker, who will turn 33 in the summer.
After Liverpool's recent win over Southampton, Salah said he was “probably more out than in” and admitted he was “disappointed” that no contract offer had been made after another impressive start to the season. The striker's priority is to extend his stay at Anfield and he has no plans to leave.
A report in L'Equipe linked Salah with a move to PSG, although the Ligue 1 champions have denied they are in talks. From January 1, Salah can sign a pre-contractual agreement with a club outside England.
The Reds, who sit at the top of the Premier League, have insisted discussions with Salah have been positive and are ongoing. But the Egyptian is frustrated with the lengthy talks that are dragging on and, according to The Athletic, is not convinced the club will meet his expectations.
Salah has stressed his 'love' for Liverpool but believes he is still among the best players in the world and that the terms of a new contract should reflect that status despite his age, which is likely to be the biggest stumbling block .
In 2022, he agreed to a three-year contract extension, widely believed to be worth £350,000 per week in basic salary, making Salah the highest-paid player in the club's history. Any new deal is likely to result in a pay cut, which may not be well received by the forward.
Liverpool still have some big decisions to make before the season comes to an end. Virgil van Dijk, who underlined his importance with another great performance in Sunday's win over Manchester City, is once again a man out of contract in just a few months.
The Dutchman has just claimed there is “no update” on his future. Trent Alexander-Arnold is also out of contract in a few months and Real Madrid is closely linked with Real Madrid. The right-back swapped shirts with Jude Bellingham after last week's win over the Spanish giants.
