Amorim adamant out of favour Rashford can still push Man Utd forward

Ruben Amorim wants Marcus Rashford to take responsibility for getting Manchester United back on track.

United's defeat at home to Bournemouth on Sunday now means they have lost three of their last four league games. They were also dumped out of the EFL Cup by Tottenham.

The Red Devils will spend Christmas in the bottom half of the Premier League for the first time, but new head coach Amorim hopes that long-serving players such as Rashford, who made his debut in February 2016, can improve the situation.

Amorim has not selected Rashford in his past three matchday squads, who has hinted his future lies away from United, but the Portuguese is confident the forward can still play a big role for the club going forward.

“Some guys have a big responsibility here because they have been here for a long time,” Amorim said.

“When you have great talents, we need great performance, great responsibility and great commitment to move everyone forward right now.

“This is perhaps one of the lowest moments in our club. We have to face it and be strong.”

Rashford has scored just 11 Premier League goals in 48 games since the start of last season, but his overall productivity has made him one of the most remarkable players of the post-Alex Ferguson era at United.

Since Rashford made his competitive debut, no player has scored more goals for United in the league than the England international (87), while also providing 40 assists, meaning he leads the league in terms of total goals contributions (147).

Rashford scored in Amorim's opening match as United drew 1-1 with Ipswich Town. He also scored twice against Everton in a 4-0 win a week later, but the Red Devils' form has declined since then.

However, Amorim is still confident in his ability to turn the ship.

He said: “I know what I'm going to do. That's so clear to me.

“I won't say I feel relaxed because I am really frustrated. It is a very difficult moment, but we will solve the problems step by step and find answers to everything.”
