Amorim believes Man Utd were guilty of overthinking in Ipswich draw
Ruben Amorim believes Manchester United were guilty of overthinking as their Premier League leadership ended in a 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town.
The Red Devils made a flying start to Portugal's tenure as Marcus Rashford scored in just the second minute at Portman Road.
But Omari Hutchinson's deflected equalizer restored parity and Andre Onana had to make a couple of big saves from Liam Delap to ensure Amorim started with a point.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Amorim said: “I think my players were thinking too much during the match. They were not only thinking about the ball, but also: 'Where do I have to be?'
“It's difficult because the team has only been together for two days. I think we needed more physicality in the first half because they left us in front one against one, so we have to use those moments to feel the opponent.
“I think without pressure we lost a number of balls and when you start a game like this, you score one goal, you have to control the ball, you have to control the pace of the game.
“We can't do it right now, but they tried, they really, really tried. I know it's hard for some guys to understand, but they're trying and they really want this.”

Amorim admitted that United, who are 12th in the Premier League, need to improve in their game management in the future.
“I think that's a concern because you understand that at this level you don't have to coach them (how) to keep the ball, put the momentum in to put the ball in front,” he added .
“At the end of the game we are with two attackers around the penalty area. Josh (Zirkzee) has to understand that he has to go into the penalty area to get the crosses, so we are not doing things at the right time. That is something we have to address it.
“Everyone talks about the 3-4-3 – that's not the problem, it's the understanding of the game… we need to improve in this area.”
