Amorim bemoans lack of cutting edge in Man United defeat to Wolves

Ruben Amorim accepts that finishing opportunities is the “biggest problem” for Manchester United to remedy after their 1-0 home defeat against Wolves.

“If you don't score goals, you won't win games,” Amorim told BBC Radio 5 live on full -time. “We have to score goals.

“There was a time when we didn't score, but we didn't make it. We had many opportunities to score, but not – that's the biggest problem for our team,” he added.

The loss of United to Wolves was the ninth Premier League match, since Records started in 2003-04, to see Zero first half shots from the box.

Rasmus Hojlund only registered one shot in 70 minutes on the field when he went a sixth consecutive game without scoring in all competitions.

“We have to keep working, but it's not just Rasmus. The whole team has missed many opportunities,” said Amorim.

“This season will end like this, so we have to take the positive points and work on what we have to improve.”

“We have to look at everything: our team, what we have to do on the market. We will see,” he added.

Amorim has now lost 11 of his 22 Premier League matches with United, who is as much as he suffered during his last 114 league matches at Sporting CP.

“We talk every day about next season and after a while we will get what we need to improve the team,” said the United Boss.

Amorim handed a debut to 20-year-old Tyler Fredricson and also started fellow younger Harry Amass, but it was ultimately a day to forget for the hosts who are 14th in the competition and only two points free from West Ham United in the 17th.

“I think they played very well,” Amorim told Sky Sports. “We have to score goals so that the children have better memories.

“These days are really disappointing. We were better than the opponents, but if you don't score goals, you don't win games.”

Sarabia's excellent free kick of 20 Yards earned in-form Wolves a first competition double over United since the 1979-80 campaign.

Wolves have won five consecutive top games for the first time since 1970-71 and are now officially safe for the threat of relegation.

“It was not our best match. Technically and tactically we know that we can play better,” said Vorror Pereira.

“We played with our souls, with our mind and that is what I saw in the game. The supporters believed and the moment we had a chance, we scored,” added the Wolves boss.

“We are building something good for the future. We have to go to the next game and believe and with our supporters we can do it.”

Wolves Hergen Leicester next weekend while United travels to Bournemouth prior to their semi-final of the Europa League with Athletic Bilbao.
