Amorim confident in Man Utd making strong finish to season

Ruben Amorim says that Manchester United “looks up” while they strive to make a strong finish of the season, starting against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.

United is 13th in the table at 37 points and can go up with a victory, because Crystal Palace only plays on Wednesday.

Amorim's side is currently on an unbeaten line of four games in the top and are looking for back-to-back victories for the first time this season, after he had defeated Leicester City 3-0 before the international break.

Amorim also confirmed the return of Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro from injury, and with other players who will be returning soon, he is sure that he is on his way in the last nine games of the competition season.

“You can say that I am really confident,” he said. “I feel that the players are more confident, the energy is different. But I also know that this can change with the results.

“We are aimed at maintaining the energy. Even winning the games, we can acknowledge that we have much to improve. But we are more confident at a different time and we are ready for the last two months of the season.

“I don't know which place we are going to finish, but we look up and we want to win games.”

Forest is now third in the Premier League table, with a six-point pillow over the fifth placed Manchester City. They are also only four points behind Arsenal in second place.

Forest achieved their place in the FA Cup Semi-Final on Saturday and set up Beyond Brighton on penalties to set up a Wembley date against Man City.

Nuno Espirito Santo says that the celebrations have already ended, because Forest seems to try to strengthen their place in the Champions League the following season.

“It was beautiful – everyone enjoyed it,” he said. “The fans enjoyed it, and that is more important than anything. But it takes so short, and here we are again focused on the game.

“We are happy [with the league position]. We are pleased that we are going to play more matches and have opportunities to perform, improve and grow as a club and a team. “

They were without Chris Wood for that game, where Nuno performed a positive update about his recovery of injury, although it is not clear whether he will be available to United.

Players to watch

Nottingham Forest Morgan Gibbs-White

Morgan Gibbs-White helped a goal in both Forest's last two Premier League matches.

The only players who help a goal in three consecutive performances for the club in the competition are Steve Stone (April 1995), Ian Woan (November 1995), Gibbs-White himself (April 2024) and Anthony Elanga (January 2025).

Manchester United – Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes has (three goals) scored or helped (three assists) a goal in each of his last four Premier League matches for United.

Only twice before he has had a longer series of targets at the competition: five performances from February to June 2020 and six from December 2022 to February 2023.

Competition prediction: Nottingham Forest Win

After their 3-2 victory in Old Trafford in December, Forest wants to complete their first competition doubles over United since 1991-92 under Brian Clough.

Forest also won this exact game last season, last win against Man Utd at the City Ground in successive league campaigns in 1988-89 and 1989-90.

United has indeed lost their last two Premier League matches against the difficult trees, more than they had in their first 13 in advance (W10 D2 L1).

After their 3-0 win in Leicester City, United wants to win back-to-back Premier League matches for the first time this season and for the first time since winning three in a row in February 2024 for the first time behind the LOM games for the first time in a row.

However, they are confronted with a tough test, because Forest is unbeaten in their last eight Home League matches, who win six of them (D2), which are just as many victories as their previous 24 in the city ground in advance (W6 D7 L11).

Opta wins probability

Nottingham Forest – 42.9%

Drawing – 26.1%

Manchester United – 31.1%
