Ruben Amorim has warned that Marcus Rashford should change if he wants to save his career in Manchester United.
Rashford will miss his 12th game in a row when United is facing Steaua Bucharest in the Europa League on Thursday evening, while uncertainty lingers about his future in Old Trafford.
Amorim insists that he does not cherish a resort against the 27-year-old, but Rashford will not get in from the cold until he changes his attitude.
“Our team should be so much better with Rashford, but Rashford should change,” said United's head coach.
'If he changes, we would welcome more than a talent like Rashford – and we need him. We need goals, we need one against one, we need a threat in the last third part.
'But at the moment I think it is really clear that we have to set some standards, that's all. We wait for Marcus if he really wants it, really bad. That's the only thing.
'You try to make something personal, but it is not personal. It's nothing against Marcus.
'I just have to make the same rules for everyone. That is so simple for me, it is always the same message.
'We are a better team with Marcus Rashford, that is clear. He is a great talent. But until the right moment I will not change his mind. '
Amorim defended his comments after United won in Fulham on Sunday when he said he would choose his goalkeeper coach Jorge Vital than Rashford.
“The situation is the same for every player,” he added.
'The last time I spoke about that after the last game was my sense that I will not place a player who does not give the maximum. I did not say that I will not stop Marcus Rashford.
“It's the same situation. If I think it's the right time, I will place every player to play.
'You can watch our team and match the profile of the players. Now imagine a talent like Rashford. '
Rashford saw a smile cracking when he trained with the rest of the team on Wednesday morning, with Postsport.
But despite this Amorim chose to leave Rashford back in Manchester, just a few days after he suggested that he would rather play 63-year-old vital than to bring Rashford back into the fold.
Many clubs are interested in signing Rashford this month on loan, but with a handful of days many of them have difficulty reaching an agreement.
