Ruben Amorim has suggested he will adopt the same approach as during Manchester United's recent meeting with Arsenal in Sunday's big Manchester derby.
The Red Devils' new head coach will renew his partnership with Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, just weeks after putting the Premier League champions to the sword in the Champions League for his former club Sporting Lisbon.
And with City currently in the midst of their worst-ever form, Amorim and United will fancy their chances of causing further misery to their noisy neighbors – even if they aren't exactly in bad health themselves.
Ahead of the match, Amorim has hinted that he could line up his team in a similar fashion to the match against Arsenal earlier this month, where United played reasonably well in the first half before succumbing to a 2-0 defeat.
“I always look forward to coaching Manchester United,” Amorim told club media. “Especially in the derby, but we have so much to focus on to get better every day.
“We want to see different things [against Man City]. I think we did well in the first half against Arsenal, so we have the opportunity that we have players to do it, and we will try to do it again and try to win the game.”
With United still languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table, the upcoming festive fixture list should give them ample opportunity to take back points from those above them, provided they can find that form.
In any case, they will be buoyed by their win over Viktoria Plzen in midweek ahead of the derby. Amorim added: “It's so important because when you start preparing for the next match, you feel like you're winning. So you don't care how you win.
“We should have won these kinds of games that we had on Thursday, so now we go to another game. We have to win. We lost the other two in the Premier League. We have to have the feeling of winning these kinds of games, and we will be ready.”
