Senior reporter Melissa Reddy from Sky Sports News sits down with Manchester United -boss Ruben Amorim prior to the Manchester Derby of Sunday in Old Trafford, Live on Sky Sports, as the Portuguese says that this summer's transfer window will be “crucial”.
Ruben, there were so many positive points against Nottingham Forest, but man Utd conspiring against himself with two bad habits, who first admit and then really poor in the last third part. How do you try to solve those problems?
“First admitted, if you look at our season, we improve in that department because we are more focused. But every time we disconnect a little – and you can view the goal against Nottingham, it was a corner. There is a corner, we have players for the second ball and then you suffer a goal and then the game changes and the game changes.
“It doesn't matter if it is a passing exercise, they must be focused. So we try. And then we try to place the players in that position in that position during training. But we also need time for that. We sometimes need a little luck, because when we shoot and it is not the goalkeeper [denying us]It is the defense. Of course we cannot hide behind that. But I also understand because I was a football player, I am a coach, I understand that sometimes you just need a shot to score. At the moment we have to do a lot of things. “
Is it more a psychological something the problems in the last third, where players might get away or just not flows, so they are not as calm as they should be in terms of their decision -making?
“I think they should spend more time in that position because we didn't have many games such as Nottingham, such as just attacks. We have to spend more time there. And also at that moment, if you look at Rasmus (Hojlund) and Josh (Zirkzee) and Garna (Alejandro Garnaacho) they want to do this where we have the situations, but we have to place it, but we have to place it, but we have to place it, but we have to place it, but we have to place it, but we have to place it, but we have to place it, but we have to place it, but we have to place it. Maybe it's just the moment of the players “
How do you change the mentality of your players from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City on Sunday, prior to what is the most important Europa League match against Lyon on Thursday?
“It's all in the training. You explain it, and then you put an exercise on, like really clear how to do it. And they are professional players, they are smart and they understand that you can press Nottingham in a certain way, but they will try to make a transition.
“We know that Manchester City is going to work the ball, pushing us to a lower block. But then we have to understand that when they push us, we have another space to attack when you compare it to Nottingham games. So we try to use the training to adapt to another reality.”
You have now talked a few times about where you have said that you have noticed many improvements in the team and you adapted to what you want to see of them. Can you tell us what especially you have found encouraging?
“I can see it. You were talking about fluidity. We are more fluent, you can see more there. You can see that we can maintain the ball. We create more opportunities. You can see the players understand the position very well. You can see that the wingbacks attack more, with more courage in the last third, the transitions we are. With the three defenders. So the small details that are sometimes difficult to see, but I see the games like three times, I can see the training and I can understand that they improve. “
I know you want to concentrate on the games, but we have a huge summer for Manchester United. How essential is things good from your perspective this summer? Especially in terms of recruitment?
“I think it's crucial. I think we are trying to do everything as quickly as possible. If you look at the schedule of teams, we don't have the Club World Cup, so that means we will have a preseason.
“If you look at the following years, we will have a World Cup then a European Championship. So this window will be huge to work on our base.
“I think it is clear to everyone here that will be crucial and we must use it. We will not have a next preseason. It will not be. So we have to do everything quickly as possible to be prepared for everyone before the preseason to start after a season like this.
“We have to show something. That is not a debate. So I don't want that conversation about we need a lot of time. We need time, perhaps to win the competition, but we have to improve a lot after this season.”
What are you looking for on the market in terms of recruitment and the characteristics that you want to see from players?
“I will not talk about that because I have my players and I know my players are listening. I just want to improve my players because there are many qualities and I have to help them be better. But of course I have a way to play that is different from the former coach, so I have to choose a number of characteristics that we don't have in the team.”
In England there is such a huge focus on transfers, while many coaches and managers express the need to see improvement on the training pitch – which often has to be even more important than recruitment?
“I think it is all connected. You have to be really good in every department, especially in this competition. You really have to be good at the pitches. We have to improve our players, but also, especially in moments that our club has, recruiting can change the way we continue and can be crucial.
“So when I say about recruitment, it's not just the big names and to spend a lot of money. Sometimes it is the player who is 17 years old, who is in a different top club and is completed his contract and we can use the Manchester United brand to bring that child. Some players with quality, so that is not a recruitment, but is really important to us.
Ayden Heaven is a great example of that because you grab the chance, you bring it in, and he shows all the qualities he has …
“Yes. And we have to give Jason (Wilcox – technical director of the man UTD) credit. Jason has done it great. He watches those details. Ayden is a child who arrives here, really worked well and then with some injuries, he had the chance and shows many qualities. So that can also change your recruitment. [Lisandro Martinez] Has an injury, we need a left -wing centerpiece ', but now we have this child so that we can save money for something else. So that is really important and the door is open for young children. “
You have talked about a hurry to be successful here. You don't relieve the challenge, if there is something, you put the pressure on yourself …
“Yes, I think it's my job and that I know myself very well. I can't spend much time in the halfway. I don't know myself, I don't go for this kind of life. So I am completely for it and I really, really, really, in the future we can win the Premier League.
