Amorim explains why he feels ‘mad & upset’ after Man United’s draw at Liverpool

Ruben Amorim said he was 'angry and upset' by Manchester United's performance in the draw against Liverpool as they have not shown the same fighting spirit in other matches.

Liverpool fought from behind after Lisandro Martinez opened the scoring, with Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah scoring the goals – but Amad Diallo found a goal in the 80th minute to level the match.

United were much better than in recent weeks and boss Amorim was upset by this and asked his team to use this result as a platform in the coming matches. “The other games make me even angrier,” he said.

'Some things are even more difficult to understand. This is not about the system, the technology, it's about something else…

'I'm upset today, really upset. I'm happy with the performance, but everyone will say today that the team did a good job. Today I may be the only one angry at the team, but today we were a team.

'We played some good games in the last month, but then we dropped again. It's something that we really have to be consistent with. We had this conversation after (winning) Manchester City, it was the same.

'I want to see my team play so much better, but I think the most important thing we have to address today is the mentality and that is the key to everything.

'Today we were a different team, not because of the system, not because of a technical or tactical aspect.

“We competed like we should every day. Training and competition, it does not fit the place, the opponent, that we face every day.'

Captain Bruno Fernandes felt the same way, adding: “Obviously we have been criticized, and rightly so, because the position at the table says it all.

'We lost too many points. Even today we can't be happy with the draw because we need more points than them.

'It is a very good and fair result, both teams played good football and it was intense.

'I'm quite upset because we can show this against Liverpool at Anfield, the first in the league, the excellent team in the Premier League this season. Why can't we do this every week?'
