Amorim ‘is interested in bringing an established Bayern star into Man Utd side’
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is said to be working to bring one of Bayern Munich's established stars to Old Trafford, according to reports in Germany.
The Portuguese head coach has managed just three games in charge of the Premier League after being signed from Sporting Lisbon in the wake of Erik ten Hag's sacking in early November.
But Amorim is already eyeing a turnaround at Old Trafford, and an attempt to shake the club up from a slow start to the season.
Ahead of the January transfer window, the new manager has been tipped to make a number of transformative signings, including luring Sporting star Viktor Gyokeres to Manchester.
However, one star Amorim would like to work with for the first time is currently plying his trade in the Bundesliga.
According to Sky Sports Germany, Amorim is reportedly planning to lure Konrad Laimer to join Manchester United.
The 27-year-old has only spent a season and a half in Bavaria after joining from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023, but has quickly proven himself to be a reliable presence in midfield, making 59 appearances since joining the club. Bundesliga giants.
United are said to have previously shown an interest in the player ahead of his move to Munich in 2022, with former manager Ralf Ragnick believed to be keen to include his compatriot in the starting line-up ahead of the 2022-2023 season.
But should Amorim set his sights on enlisting in Laimer to join its ranks, the 39-year-old may have his work cut out for him.
According to BILD, Laimer would currently not consider leaving Allianz, where he is under contract for another three years.
Bayern's 'Mr Reliable' is believed to be content with his position in Vincent Kompany's side, proving himself a regular starter under the former Burnley manager.
Despite making an unbeaten start in Manchester, Amorim will likely look to refine his squad during the January transfer window as he looks to help the club challenge at the top of the table again.
But ahead of revamping the struggling squad, Amorim will face some tough Premier League tests as the games pile up over the festive period – starting with a visit to title-chasing Arsenal in the Emirates.
Before the match, Amorim was keen to make it clear to his players how tough the journey to North London would be after facing Ipswich and Everton, and Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League.
“I would like to say several things, but I have to say it again: the storm will come,” Amorim warned on Tuesday.
'We are going to experience difficult moments and in some matches we will be discovered. I know that because I know my players, know football and follow football.
'I know it's very difficult to be the coach of Manchester United and say these things. We always want to win, no matter what happens, but we know we are at a different point when you compare it to Arsenal.'
