Amorim leads car-pooling celebrating stars on late-night return to Manchester

The Manchester United team arrived back at Manchester Airport on Sunday evening after their dramatic victory over Arsenal.

Arsenal entertained United in the FA Cup third round at the Emirates, with the Red Devils securing their place in the next round thanks to a 5-4 win on penalties after a thrilling encounter.

Bruno Fernandes had given United the lead early in the second half before disaster lingered when Diogo Dalot was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.

Gabriel leveled the score and Arsenal had the chance to turn things around when Harry Maguire was judged to have fouled Kai Havertz in the penalty area, despite replays showing minimal contact.

United stand-in stopper Altay Bayindir made a stunning save to deny Martin Odegaard from the spot in normal time, and Ruben Amorim's side held on until the shootout when the Turkish keeper saved again – this time from Kai Havertz – to secure the Red Devils. ' place in round four.

And at around 10pm on Sunday, the Amorim side were photographed returning to Manchester fresh from their thrilling win.

Several stars were seen driving away from the airport after their plane landed, while some loyal United fans braved the cold to greet their returning heroes.

Amorim stopped to sign autographs for supporters before he was seen smiling as he drove away in his £180,000 black electric Porsche Taycan Turbo Estate.

However, the United boss was the only figure to stop for the fans and when questioned by them he claimed this was because the players were tired and needed to eat and sleep in preparation for their midweek match against Southampton on Thursday.

In fact, the team had returned almost two hours later than planned due to extra time and penalties in the FA Cup win over the Gunners.

Several stars were spotted carpooling on their way home, which may give fans insight into which players are close friends.

South American duo Lisandro Martinez and Manuel Ugarte were spotted traveling in the Argentine defender's £350,000 Rolls Royce Cullinan.

Meanwhile, United's youthful duo Alejandro Garnacho, 20, and Amad Diallo, 22, were also together.

Garnacho drove as fans got a glimpse of his £120,000 Range Rover.

Elsewhere, match winner Joshua Zirkzee, who scored the decisive penalty, was driven away in another Range Rover by an unknown person.

Zirkzee's decisive intervention marked a dramatic turnaround for the Dutch international after he was cheered when he was substituted midway through the first half against Newcastle just two weeks ago.

Bruno Fernandes, who had scored United's opener on Sunday before also scoring in the shootout, drove home alone in his new £250,000 Bentley Bentayga Black Edition.

Meanwhile, Matthijs de Ligt, who has endured a bumpy ride since his own £42.8million summer transfer from Bayern Munich, flashed a grin as he left the airport in his £120,000 Range Rover.

Following United's victory, Amorim was full of praise for his side after they won after a brilliant display of fighting.

“It (the win) was very important because it gives us more strength, and with less one player it is very difficult to apply pressure,” he said.

“It's really difficult to put pressure on a team like Arsenal with 11 players, imagine with 10 players, and then you're at a disadvantage, it's very difficult because they can control the ball.

'They already had the ball under control at many times. So it was essential to win the match, to draw the match.”

He continued: ''The players were very tired, but I had the feeling from the first minute that today was our day. I also felt a connection with our fans, our staff. In that respect it was a very good day for us.

“I think that's clear (we're becoming more resilient). I think it's also clear that if we score first, it helps us suffer. It's like more power.'

United are back in action on Thursday when they host Southampton.
