Amorim makes Man Utd sack admission and refuses to change style of play

Ruben Amorim insists that he is still the man to change Manchester United – but admitted that results will eventually determine his fate.

United takes on Real Sociedad in the last 16 of the Europa League on Thursday and has to go all the way and lift the trophy to achieve a Champions League place for next season.

Amorim's silk is in 14th place in the Premier League, but he is adamant to make them great again, while he admits that he no longer has time if the results do not improve.

“I know what to do, but sometimes it's a lack of results and you have to win games,” Amorim said. “So I know the consequences if you don't win games. But I really have faith, since day one. A little more frustrated, but I still have faith in it.”

Amoorm also said that he will not compromise about his system or playing style – even if it ultimately costs him the United Baan if the results do not improve this season.

“I think the system is not the problem,” said Amorim. “It's the way of playing. The problem of our team is therefore not the system. We have many problems and we try to work on these problems.

“But I was always very clear that I have one idea and I am still really over, because I have an idea how to play football.

“I will not change that, whatever happens, and I am not talking about the system. It's about the way I see football and we're going to do it – or not. We will see. “

United Defender Matthijs de Ligt said: “We have not been good enough in many competitions this season, so we know that and we try to improve as a team.

“We all know that we have to improve and this game is another chance to show our value in a European competition.

“We have not lost a match in Europe this season, so hopefully we can keep it that way and get a good result.”
