The boss of Manchester United knows that he has to win next week's Europa League final to stop the pressure on his work, but is aware that winning life will make it difficult next season.
Ruben Amorim knows that the pressure on him will intensify if he cannot lead Manchester United to Europa League Glory next week. Amorim has already admitted that he cancel the trophy – and thereby following Champions League football next season – is perhaps not the best result because he rebuilt his team.
The Portuguese coach knows that he needs more time to work with his team and that the extra burden of eight European games will probably hinder his chances of progress. But with United Down in 16th place in the table and about to complete their worst season of the Premier League era, Amorim knows that he has no choice but to win in Bilbao.
When asked about the pressure on him that is increasing or United did not defeat the Spurs next Wednesday, Amorim said: “Yes, if we don't win. But I'm not worried about that.
'It's getting really bad [if United lose]. I don't want to use that as an excuse, but it will be really difficult. That's my feeling. The patience of the fans and you, and the patience for next season will have reached his limit and we must be perfect. “
Put under pressure why he felt that United may be better off without Champions League football next season, Amorim said: “That is my feeling – we need more time with the team. We have to arrange many things at Carrington [United’s training ground] And we need more time – not thinking of game per game.
“Then we have the team. We have proven this year that we should be a better team if we want to win European matches and then really want to be competitive during the Premier League.”
Despite the most shabby season since United was relegated in 1973-74, Amorim said he can feel the excitement building in the club prior to the Make-Or-Break European Final.
“You can feel that a final is different,” Amorim said. “This season was really difficult for everyone, not only the results, but also the changes in the staff. You can feel it in our club.
“We start to change the way we play during the season during the season. We have had so many bad results in the Premier League, so the environment is currently heavy.
“But when we prepare a game in the Europa League, the environment is a bit different. You can feel the excitement, but at the same time you can understand the environment this year.”
Although they perform too little in the Premier League this season, Amorim knows that his players are able to lift themselves next week to end a tough campaign on a high.
“Our players have proven in the past that they can do that in these types of games,” said Amorim. “So we will be prepared for the game. It would be huge for us to win something, to give something to the fans. My message will be to the players:” We have to win or otherwise it doesn't matter “.”
