Amorim: Man Utd ‘in the same boat’ as Postecoglou and Tottenham

Manchester United -boss Ruben Amorim believes that he is “in the same boat” as Tottenham's Ange Postecoglou prior to their Premier League collision this weekend.

United travels to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, hoping to build on their FA Cup victory on Leicester City and bouncing back from their 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace last time in the Premier League.

Although it is not the 'Super Sunday' collision that many would have presented when this luminaire was added in June, with both teams getting out in the lower half of the table.

The Red Devils enter the collision in the 13th, one place and two points for Tottenham, with a lot of invoicing this as a must-win armor for both Postecoglou and Amorim.

Both have tried to implement their specific style, which has not been arranged since then, something that has seen criticism that has sent their way, although Amorim believes that he and Postecoglou have the same problem if the couple remains confident in their tactics.

“I am a big fan of Ange Postecoglou. I am from a different culture, I am Portuguese and all Portuguese coaches can adapt. I adjust,” Amorim said.

“The simple thing is that I am currently using one system because I believe that if you work on that system, you can play in different systems at the same time. That is my idea.

“But we don't win games and I understand the connection between me and ange, we have the same problems.

“In my opinion, with all due respect, I am in a larger club with greater pressure. I understand the connection and he is a really important coach to follow his principles.”

Indeed, the inability of both United and Tottenham to keep goals this season has been a contributing factor for their overwhelming seasons in the Premier League.

Tottenham has the fifth most expected goals against the total (XGA) in the division (41.28), with the Red Devils not far behind 37.22 XGA.

However, United has also struggled this period on the other side of the field, not scoring in nine of their 24 games to date this period. This season they also did not score in the first half of 18 different Premier League matches, more than any other team in the competition.

Marcus Rashford and Antony both left the club on loan in the transfer window of January, reducing Amorim's attacking options, while Patrick Dorgu, a defender, was the only addition.

Amorim admitted that United should see more departure in the team before they start planning who they can bring in when the transfer window is opened again at the end of the season.

“It is simple here. To do something, we have to sell players. My focus is to prepare for the game. We can't do it now, the window is closed,” he said.

“We have to concentrate on the games we have and then we will see in the summer.”
