Amorim ‘really mad’ as Man Utd earn brilliant point at Anfield after horror run

“MAD” RUBEN AMORIM left Anfield furious after watching Manchester United put in a brilliant performance at Liverpool.

And captain Bruno Fernandes was left wondering why he and his teammates can't perform like this every week.

Amorim, who suffered six defeats in his first 11 games when he started this, was far from satisfied despite the excellent performance, as he fumed: “It makes me even more angry because of the other games. Even for the coach it is difficult to understand.

“It was a point, they deserved the point, but it's only one point. I think we have to be angrier than we were against Newcastle or Nottingham Forest, we are really disappointed.

“We are in a difficult moment, but it is difficult not to get really angry. We have to do it against every opponent, we have to fight very hard to get out of this situation.

“The way we were really competitive is crucial for the future.

“It's not just the players, it's everyone. I'm happy with the performance but not the result, but I'm really angry because of the other games.

“It's the way we look at the game, it's the way we compete, and not just the training. I don't want to use that. We don't need any training in this.

“You can ask anyone on this pitch how we fight, believe and face the opponent, go for the second ball, it's so clear.

“Today the players really wanted it and the main thing is to forget, relax and return to the same behavior in the next game. We have to move on, congratulations to the boys for the performance, but not for the result.

“That should be a big problem for our players: even one person thinks you have the skill but not the character, we have to fight against that and change that.

“I think it's very clear. When we are focused, when we fight for every ball, when we suffer and are tired when the match ends, we are a good team.

“If we don't do that all the time, we're going to lose games. That is clear to everyone.”

Fernandes, whose team is in 13th place, added: “We have been criticized fairly.

“Our position in the rankings says it all, we have lost too many points. Even today we cannot be happy with a point. We need the points and we could have won the game in the end, but it's a fair result. Both teams played good football.

“I'm quite upset. If we show this level at Liverpool, first in the league, why can't we do this everywhere? It frustrates me. I also finally delivered a good performance. We said that we need a lot more from ourselves to get more out of this season.

“Being 2-1 [down] Then it's good to score a point, but we need more. Now we have an FA Cup game against Arsenal and it will be very tough, but we want to reach the final again.

“We know how tough it is to play against Liverpool. Today we really tried our best to play the game. Playing with some passion and heart is what will get you something out of the game. You have to make an effort and that's why we brought something from today.

“It can't stop here. We need to take this frustration into the next game to understand that this should be the level. If we can do it at Anfield, we should do it everywhere.”
