Amorim responds to Roy Keane after Man Utd legend’s ‘disgrace’ rant at boss

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim says that he and his players deserve all the criticism they get after ex-skiper Roy Keane called them “a shame” to give up the Premier League

Ruben Amorim says that Manchester United deserves all the criticism that comes on their way after the worst Premier League campaign of the club ever. United is in 15th place in the table with three more games to play, after a record 16 defeats in the Premier League era this season.

Former united skipper Roy Keane said that it was “a shame” that Amorim had given up the Premier League to concentrate on reaching the Europa League final, where they will meet Tottenham. Amorim accepted the criticism of Keane and others, but said that he had to sacrifice the competition, with Europa League Glory the winners earned a ticket of £ 100 million to the Champions League of next season.

“We try to do our best, but I agree that we can do better,” Amorim said. “I have nothing to say about the criticism because we earn it.

“If we cannot accept everything in this kind, I think we are in the wrong things. I recognize that completely and I agree with all the critics.

“But at the moment I think it is really clear – we have to be smart and we have to take a risk.

“We have to take the risk of getting a lot of criticism from everyone, because the standards of Roy Keane and all these other guys are really high.

“But I have to make a choice – what is best for the club, not what is best for me.

“So I make a choice. At the moment I'm going to save and try to save all players, because it is really important to us to win the final. We can't save anything from the Premier League.”

Amorim looked ahead to the final and said: “I think it will be a really good game. A bit emotional, because both teams struggle a lot in the Premier League and want to win something.

“They are two teams that play in the same competition and know each other. It means a lot, not only for us, but also for Tottenham. It means a lot, not only for me, but also for Ange [Postecoglou]After this season.

“It is a huge game and I know it will be difficult for the people of Bilbao, because they wanted to play at home in the final. But for all our team it is really important to give something back to our fans this season.”
