Amorim ‘turns to athletics guru’ in bid to sharpen his side’s conditioning

Ruben Amorim has used to transform the fortunes of Manchester United into a leading athletics coach in an attempt.

Since the Portuguese coach arrived in Old Trafford in November, Amorim has passed a mixed enchantment and won only seven of his 17 games.

In recent weeks, United has shown small signs of improvement with three victories in their past four games, but the Red Devils in the 12th in the Premier League, 12 points of the top four.

Amorim has not been afraid to call his side, with the 40-year-old recently labeled his team 'perhaps the worst' in the history of the club, while he has also been critical of their working speed and even issues issues under his star, body fat Levels.

And according to The Times Harry Marra, a legendary athletic coach of Olympic Games, joined the club as a consultant, in charge of grinding the Fitness of United.

Marra, who led the American decathlete Ashton Eaton to two Olympic titles in 2012 and 2016, was named World Athletics Coach of the Year in 2016, while he also worked with various other elite multi-format athletes.

He has been involved in the same way with Major League Baseball Team, the San Francisco Giants, where he served as their speed and fitness adviser.

Marra now works together with the Fitness and Sports Science Staff of United, with the 78-year-old who is responsible for sharing his expertise.

The American is expected to stay in the club for a few weeks, but the possibility to choose the brain of such a legendary figure in athletics would have caused excitement.

The arrival of Marra follows a pattern at United of bringing in highly respected figures, from different areas and sports to share knowledge and to help you develop staff at the club.

The Times report adds that this season has already been taken various similar movements, including the expert-conducted experts in medical and injury management, nutrition and strength training.

Under Marra's custody, the legendary Eaton won five outdoor and indoor world titles next to the two Olympic gold medals, while in the same way he broke two world records.

Marra also coached the will of Brianne Theisen-Eaton, Paul Terek, Sheldon Blockburger and the American was mentioned last year in the top ten of track and field coaches of all time.

In the meantime, in November, Amorim had first emphasized his concerns about the fitness levels of United, just a few weeks after arrival.

“We have to improve the physical aspect (of our game),” he said. 'I think if you want to talk about the team, the way we play, I think we lose the ball too often and we have to keep the ball.

“We have to run back better. I think that is clear to everyone. And we have to be very good in the details.

'Sometimes we hope to change many things, big things. I think it's the little things and we are here to improve the little things.

'The way we see football play like a team, understanding the game in one way, that's the focus. I can tell you in the small things that I can help these players a lot. '

United returns to action on Thursday when they travel to the Romanian side FCSB (Steaua Bucharest) and a victory will secure their automatic progression to the last 16 of the Europa League.
