Amorim wants Man Utd to be more clinical after last-gasp Rangers win

Ruben Amorim wants his Manchester United team to show a more clinical lead after they needed a dramatic winner to beat Rangers 2-1 in the Europa League.

A comically own goal from Jack Butland gave the Red Devils ahead in the second half on Old Trafford before Alejandro Garnacho hit the post and Harry Maguire missed a Sitter.

Cyriel Dessers punished those mistakes with a beautiful late finish, but Fernandes was captured as a captain and scored a brilliant winner to settle the Battle of Britain match on Thursday.

United boss Amorim was satisfied with certain aspects of United's game, but admits that they must be more controlled for the goal.

In conversation with TNT Sports, Amorim said: “We did well. We played better with the ball. I think we started well and then we lost control of the game because of a number of bad decisions.”

“We were so close to the second goal with so many opportunities.

“We don't play at our best, but we have regrouped ourselves compared to the last game. I know the opponent is different. It wasn't that fast.”

“You see the connections. I think we should be more clinical at the right moments, because that can help us a lot.”

United has won all three games under Amorim in this competition, just as much as they have won in eleven Premier League matches under their new boss.

However, it was not a perfect evening, where both Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro were eliminated due to injury problems.

Amorim said, 'He [De Ligt] Felt something in his leg. Leny too, so we can't risk anything.

“We have to win, but we have to protect the players and show that everyone is doing right now.”
