Ancelotti, 65, appears in Madrid court as he faces tax evasion trial

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is depicted in the court in the Spanish capital for the opening of his trial for tax evasion.

Ancelotti, 65, arrived on Wednesday morning at the provincial court of Madrid before he sat in the dock.

The Italian is accused of deliberately incorrectly informed of the tax office during his first spell that the Spanish giants accused between 2014 and 2015 to prevent them from paying more than € 1 million (£ 833,000) in income tax.

Ancelotti denies every misconduct and has sworn to fight the charges. His appearance in court only came a few hours after the exciting total victory of Real Madrid over Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey.

The Italian manager previously admitted that he paid taxes in 2014, but blamed this for mistakes from his accountants.

He insists that he did not violate laws in 2015, because he did not need the 183 days in Spain to pay taxes.

But public prosecutors claim that the main source of income from Ancelotti was during this period of Real, because he was not in charge of Bayern Munich until 2016.

According to Sport, prosecutors have called on Ancelotti to imprison for four years if he is found guilty of the charges against him.

Ancelotti has previously tackled his case and stated that he is 'convinced that I am innocent'.

“This is an old story,” he told reporters. 'The office of the public prosecutor believes that I was a resident in 2015, and I believe I wasn't.

'The fine has been paid and the case is in the hands of my lawyers. I am convinced that I am innocent. Let's see what the judge decides. '
