Real Madrid came across Real Sociedad in a semi-final of the roller coaster Copa del Rey. After he was aggregated 2-1, Los Blancos admitted a total of four times to the Santiago Bernabeu before a goal of Antonio Rudiger won five minutes from the end of the extra time to 5-4 for aggregated. Their lead, however, took both two minutes, while Vinicius ran past two defenders along the left flank to help Jude Bellingham. Four minutes later, Aurelien Tchouameni Los Blancos led back at the front of a corner, one that came about because of Vinicius' Run behind it.
During the game it was reported that manager Carlo Ancelotti Vinicius said about the touchline that “if he didn't run, he would deduct him,” in a heated discussion where Vinicius was seen that the Italian “no, no!” This version of events was placed to Ancelotti after the game and he confirmed to Marca that this had taken place.
“Yes, that conversation, that warning brought the best to Vinicius. From that moment on he raised the pace and quality. He was decisive. With one of his movements we made it 2-3 and played a spectacular game,” Ancelotti noted.
It goes back to a debate that has dominated the Real Madrid season, whether such an offensive trio can be trusted in advance to work hard enough in the defense. Ancelotti himself has talked about it several times and explains that at some point he will go all four (including Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe and Rodrygo) to convince them to work harder. Although he will be satisfied with the end result, Ancelotti will worry that he still has to say so much at this late stage of the summer.
