Carlo Ancelotti has confronted with increasing pressure on his position as Real Madrid after having had a number of set backs after this season and the risk of running the campaign without a big trophy
Real Madrid -Baas Carlo Ancelotti has insisted that he wants to stay “for as long as possible” in the club, despite speculation, he could leave the Bernabeu this summer. Ancelotti is one of the most successful managers in the club's history, but is under pressure after he has hit Barcelona in La Liga and was dumped by Arsenal from the Champions League.
Madrid was humiliated last week against the Gunners after 3-0 down in the first stage at the Emirates and unable to produce a change in the second stage in the Bernabeu, with the men of Mikel Arteta won 2-1.
They are four points on Drift of competition leaders Barcelona and are confronted with a huge battle to hold their crown this season. The Catalan side is also in the way of silverware this Saturday in the Copa del Rey final.
If Madrid ends the season without a big trophy, then Ancelotti will come under increasing pressure and there have already been reports that former player Xabi Alonso could be drawn up as his replacement. He is currently manager of Bayer Leverkusen.
But Ancelotti was challenging when he was asked about his future. He said that he was still in the “honeymoon” phase in the Bernabeu and was happy in the work, while he claimed that the pressure on his position only “feeds” him.
'I would like to go here [at Madrid] And I hope this will take as long as possible, “he told the media.” The honeymoon continues. I am very happy, satisfied. There is a lot of pressure, but that is always the case on this point of the season.
“I am happy with the club, they know that this has been a difficult season. Stress is fuel – it doesn't bother me, it gives me more energy.”
The Italian has won almost every big trophy in Elite Voetbal. He has won the Premier League, La Liga, Ligue 1, the Bundesliga and Serie A – the only manager who won the title in all five top European competitions. Ancelotti has also won the Champions League A -record five times.
He said he knew that Barcelona's overcome in La Liga and the Copa del Rey would determine the success of their season and said that the team was aimed at beating their rivals on both fronts.
“It makes sense that both titles are supplied with the beating of Barcelona,” he added. “That is what we have for us and that is what we have to do. We can achieve it, but it is clear that something has to change.”
Thinking about Madrid's season, he admitted that it was not their best campaign – even though he was tipped to dominate with people like Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius JR and Jude Bellingham.
“It could certainly have been better, and I have to accept my responsibility,” said Ancelotti. “Hopefully this consideration, which is correct, will fade into the background at the end of the season.”
