Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has made a rare public criticism of the club and requires a larger coaching staff. The Italian manager has one of the shorter staff in the division, with only eight integral members of their staff, while Marcelino Garcia Toral in Villarreal closer to the triple number is that number.
Earlier in the season it was reported that Ancelotti wanted Los Blancos to expand their coaching staff, and they were looking for an addition. Stockport County coach Andy Mangan was reportedly ready to join them because of his connection with Davide Ancelotti, but that step failed because of the Brexit rules.
In the midst of the discussion about the physical toll of the current calendar, Ancelotti was asked if he would like to have a larger staff for their Copa del Rey semi-final return bone with Real Sociedad.
“I think it has been considerably reduced. The coaching staff-I have two assistants, a group of analysts, a goalkeeper coach … We think about it. The biggest problem with the schedule is not time to prepare for competitions. That work on the field is much more limited. It can be expanded with the work of the field.
Injuries played an important role in the season of Real Madrid, and at a certain moment in the season there were a number of reports that claimed a distribution between Ancelotti and the conditioning staff led by Antonio Pintus. It was pointed out to Ancelotti that Los Blancos could play a total of 85 games in 2025, and he was asked about the difference in comparison with his era.
“There was not this wear. It was a different sport, a different kind of football. Not only through wear, but also because of the preparation, the tension in terms of injuries. We have to manage this in the hope of having more time to recover better, to prepare better at competitions … This season will be very demanding.
Ancelotti admitted that it was exhausting for him to keep the side motivated for every game.
“It is very difficult for me. I talk a lot about this, try to keep them motivated and focused, but it is almost impossible. We try to do it. This schedule is very tiring and difficult. We have done it pretty well. This is a characteristic of the team. Everyone is mentally different.
If Los Blancos passes Real Sociedad, then the La Liga fixture list will rest for a day less for the final than the winner of the semi-final of Atletico Madrid-Barcelona. Ancelotti said he wasn't too worried.
“I looked at it, yes. To be honest, I did not consider it. If we don't play, the problem is solved. It is not so important to have one day or less. The most important thing is to have the minimum rest period, that is three days.”
