Ancelotti to leave Real Madrid after being named Brazil head coach

Brazil has announced that Real Madrid -Baas Carlo Ancelotti will be their new coach.

Ancelotti will see the remaining three games in the Spanish top flight before he officially takes the lead over Brazil on 26 May.

He will lead the Selecao to the end of their World Cup campaign 2026.

The Italian will be the first non-Brazilian coach who permanently takes the lead over the Brazilian national team.

He leaves Madrid and has won 15 trophies with the club about his two spells, making him their most successful coach in terms of silverware.

Ancelotti, whose current deal would expire in June 2026, won the Champions League three times in Madrid. He is the coach with the most Champions League titles in the history of the competition (five) and is also the only coach who participated in six Champions League finals.

Ancelotti became the first coach to win titles in each of Europe's top five competitions, after the success of Madrid in 2021-22.

He also has the LaLiga record for the most successive matches without defeat: 42 games between September 2023 and October 2024 (W31 D11).

The news from his exit from Madrid, however, follows a 4-3 Clasico defeat against Barcelona on Sunday, so that Los Blancos is lagging seven points on drift of their rivals with only nine left to play for.

Indeed, it probably seems that Madrid will be sent to a trophy -free season for the first time in four years.
