Andre Onana admits that the pressure of playing for Manchester United is one of the reasons why the club is struggling so badly.
Sunday's aimless draw in the Old Trafford Derby left Ruben Amorim's side to 13th place in the Premier League table as a United Squad that has cost millions to be under-performed against an equally disappointing city.
Cameroon -goalkeeper Onana admits that it was frustrating that they could not play better for their own fans, and believes that the expectations to be in United is a factor.
“Yes, you always feel a bit busy when you wear this sweater, the club is so big,” he admitted. 'It's not our best season and we want to do this so badly. Sometimes you get frustrated and of course you feel the pressure because you play for Manchester United.
'Sometimes it is an extra motivation to play for our fans. We want to win this for them, we want to win this to write history, but the situation is not there yet. We must be patient. We feel them and we are working hard to change this situation. '
One of the most timid derby's of Manchester in recent years ended in a stalemate, although United created a number of opportunities.
“We had a good game, we had control, we had our moments, we had many chances, but unfortunately we didn't score,” Onana added.
'We had more chances than she and we had better chances than they did. Unfortunately we did not score, but it is something very positive. If we keep playing how we play and continue to work how we work, it's just a matter of time and everything will be fine.
'The way we did for our fans is always a big disappointment. If you play such a big game like this, you always want to win. I am just positive because we had a good match and it will be an extra motivation for the coming game on Thursday. '
United is opposed to Lyon in the quarterfinals of the Europa League in France, still a chance to win a trophy this season and qualify for the Champions League.
“We all know the importance of this game,” said Onana. 'We will go there with the winning mentality. It is not our best season, but we still have something to win and we will go for it.
'Lyon is a very good team. We know some of them, but I don't think we should concentrate on them. It's more about us what we are going to do. I think we are better than they, we just have to go there and show who we are.
'If we go there with a winning mentality and we are focused, remain compact and together and we follow the game plan, we will win the game. Of course it will not be easy, but I think we are much better than they do. '
