Women's soccer remains attractive in the US as the value of major franchises continues to rise.
Women's soccer in the United States has always been positioned as a market with high growth potential.
After a series of incarnations, the NWSL appears to have found the formula in generating an exciting league in which the teams have become major business generators as more outside investors look to enter the women's game as both the WNBA and NWSL boom.
US-based sports marketing portal Sportico has published a list of the Top 10 most valuable franchises in the NWSL, with Angel City and KC Current leading the way despite neither team having ever won the championship.
Angel City FC
The team was founded by high-profile celebrities such as Natalie Portman, Alexis Ohanian, tennis player Serena Williams and former USWNT stars Mia Hamm, Lauren Holiday and Abby Wambach. The current board of directors also includes Becky G. Jennifer Garner, Eva Longoria, current and former NFL players Matthew Stafford and Ryan Kalil. ACFC's ownership group also includes Billie Jean King, and is now majority owned by Willow Bay and Bob Iger, notable journalists and Disney executives, respectively.
The team joined the league in 2022 and has been the highest-rated and highest-earning team in women's football on the continent since last year. This latest report from Sportico places Angel City FC at number one on the list, with a value of $250 million.
Kansas City Stream
The Kansas City team is ranked second in the rankings, with club owners fearing the team will play an important role in improving the city's image abroad.
Angie Long and Chris Long are listed as owners, while Brittany Mahomes and Patrick Mahomes claim to be co-owners of the team. The Kansas club is valued at $182 million.
