Bryan Mbeumo has finally completed his long -awaited move to Manchester United from Brentford in a £ 71 million deal – but the negotiations have been fractious and the Red Devils are furious with the actions of the London Club
Manchester United completed the signing of Bryan Mbeumo for £ 71 million – then brentford shot to sell him elsewhere and make their deal.
United landed Mbeumo with a third range of £ 65 million plus £ 6 million in add-ons, but it turned out that Brentford exerted pressure on the attacker to go to Newcastle or Tottenham. Arsenal was also in for the 25-year-old and Chelsea made a late step for him, but Mbeumo was only once interested in coming to United and told Brentford that he was not willing to go somewhere else.
It also turned out that Brentford was putting pressure on Mbeumo to reduce his wage requirements, to increase the size of the compensation they would receive, but United Eerde honored his wish to join them by agreeing to pay him £ 200,000 a week.
Sources involved in the Dealclaim Brentford wanted a fee of £ 70 million plus £ 7 million in add-ons for Mbeumo, but United succeeded in negotiating that last figure, with the £ 6 million add-ons with regard to a mix of team and individual versions.
Brentford thought that United corresponded a high wage to Mbeumo to remove rival clubs from the running for him and then started negotiations on the reimbursement at a low starting point – £ 45 million plus £ 10 million in add -ons. Former Brentford -Baas Thomas Frank, now in Tottenham, knew the price that his old club wanted for Mbeumo, so Spurs was willing to pay more than united, but the player insisted that he would only go to Old Trafford.
Today, Mbeumo will fly with the rest of the United Squad for their tour for the season and will make his debut against West Ham on Saturday at the Metlife Stadium of New Jersey. The Cameroon International has signed a contract until June 2030, with the option of an extra year and earns £ 200,000 a week.
Jason Wilcox, director of the United, said: “Bryan's goals and assists record in the Premier League is exceptional, his remarkable consistency has put him among the most productive players in England the last three seasons.
“Bryan's belief in our project and determination to become a member of the club confirmed that he fits perfectly with Manchester United and the culture that we develop.
“We are pleased to have protected one of our primary goals prior to the tour for the season. The experience in the US will be the perfect opportunity for Bryan to work with Ruben and his new teammates while we are preparing for an exciting season.”
Mbeumo, who scored 20 Premier League goals last season and produced eight assists, said: “As soon as I knew there was a chance to become a member of Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to draw for the club of my dreams – whose shirt I was growing up.
“My mentality is to always be better than I yesterday. I know that I have the spirit and character to reach a different level here, to learn from Ruben Amorim and play together with players of World Class.
“Everyone told me about the area made here and how exciting the plans are for the future. This is a huge club, with an incredible stadium and great fans, we are all really determined to challenge the biggest trophies.”
