Antoine Griezmann and Atletico Madrid reach agreement over future

Antoine Griezmann will not leave Atletico Madrid this summer. After weeks of uncertainty and whispering around the Metropolitano, Griezmann will stay in Atletico for next season and even stay longer.

In March it was reported that both Atletico and Griezmann had expressed the desire to continue their relationship in the last year of his deal, currently in the summer of 2026. While his form continues to decrease, there was an increasing reading that Grayzmann was on his way during the crucial part of the season.

Relo now reports that his exit is excluded this summer. The 34-year-old probably reached an agreement with Atletico to extend his contract until 2027. They say that this will come with a reduction in his wages, but that it was Diego Simeone who asked the club to hold Griezmann and make an attempt to do this.

He continues to believe that Griezmann is an important player, both on and off the field for Los Rojiblancos, and he is now part of their plans for next season. Despite consistent ties with Major League Soccer, and more specifically Los Angeles FC, Atletico Madrid will hold the top scorer in their history for at least a season or two more.

There seems to be little doubt that Griezmann will eventually move to the United States, a wish he has expressed in the past. It is clear that both Griezmann and Simeone believe that he has something more to give. It will be interesting to see how this influences the future of Angel Correa, which will no longer have a contract in 2026 and is linked to a move to Mexico.
