If someone has earned the right to decide his future in the team of Atletico Madrid, it is Antoine Griezmann. With another year about his deal this summer, the Frenchman reportedly weighed his future in the club.
The 34-year-old has remained a starter under Diego Simeone this season, but has difficulty replicating his usual form at crucial moments in recent months. This season he has 16 goals and seven assists in his 42 performances, although undoubtedly the star of the show in the Metropolitano has been Julian Alvarez lately.
Griezmann has expressed his wish on a number of times to move to Major League Soccer in the United States before the end of his career, and apparently is interested in clubs to make that happen if he wants. Recent reports have claimed that he has taken the international break to consider his next steps, with an exit 'increasingly more likely'.
However, Ruben Uria has claimed that Griezmann is coming to a decision – he wants to stay in the club for another season. The Veteran World Cup winner can take that decision unilaterally, but also wants to prevent it from becoming a problem for Los Rojiblancos. He will meet the club and express so much, accept a departure if the club feels that it is the right move in the summer.
It is clear that Atletico could make an important saving for his salary, and if they do not believe that he will make an important contribution, Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth are already present to start in the front for the following season. It is not clear whether Griezmann would be willing to accept a reduced role next season if that is what Simeone considers the best, but El Cholo can feel very good that Griezmann is also in his best team. Although it is true, his shape has decreased in recent months, his 23 target contributions are second to Alvarez's 28, and well for Sorloth's 17.
