Antony REJECTS Man Utd transfer exit as clubs ‘step up’ interest in flop

Antony has reportedly rejected a move to Olympiakos but is still open to a move away from Manchester United.

Antony joined from Ajax in 2022 when he reunited with former manager Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford for a huge fee of £86m. However, he has failed to live up to expectations so far, scoring just 17 goals in two and a half seasons at United.

Since Ruben Amorim replaced Ten Hag as manager in November, Antony has not made a single Premier League start. And according to a report from ABC Sevilla, Real Betis, Benfica and Olympiacos are all hoping to sign Antony this month, according to Sport Witness.

Benfica and Olympiacos are both said to have officially contacted United for the winger, but an agreement is yet to be reached. It is claimed that Antony has rejected interest from Olympiacos and would prefer to join Betis.

The report states that Antony is 'awaiting news' from United regarding his future, but Betis have been in contact with the Brazilian's representatives over the past three weeks. Betis' financial situation could complicate the deal, but the recent sale of Assane Diao to Como for around €12m has freed up some cash.

The club also believe that the success of players like Isco, Ayoze Perez and Giovani Lo Celso, who are back to their best at Betis, will tempt Antony to join them. The 24-year-old's agent, Junior Pedroso, recently spoke about his client's future.

“Many clubs have approached us about Antony's move in January,” Pedroso told GiveMeSport. “These clubs wanted to understand the situation for Antony, so I can confirm that there is concrete interest. I can say that Antony's future is strongly linked to the interests of Manchester United.”

“If the club thinks it is a good idea to loan Antony in January so that he can get more minutes and regain his confidence, we will work on that option together. Otherwise, Antony will work hard to regain his place and to do his best.” skills under new coach Ruben Amorim.”

Amorim, meanwhile, believes that Antony's struggles are simply due to a lack of trust and faith. He said last month: “He needs more confidence. If you remember Antony who played for Ajax, he lacks a little bit of confidence to play one-on-one, but he will improve.”

“He works very hard and tries to play more inside than outside, especially in this game. He just has to do that. Work very hard and I will help him become a better player.”
