‘Anyone can be a starter’ – Alonso impressed by Real Madrid’s strength in depth

Xabi Alonso has stated that “everyone can be a starter”, while Real Madrid is watching back-to-back Laliga victories when they face real Oviedo on Sunday.

Madrid started the season with a 1-0 win over Osasuna, while Oviedo started their return to the top flight with a 2-0 defeat to Villarreal.

The winning start of Los Blancos under the new coach Alonso meant that Madrid expanded their unbeaten opening day record to 17 consecutive games (winning 11, five signs), last lost to Deportivo La Coruna in August 2008.

After his debut campaign in the Santiago Bernabeu, in which he resulted in 32 goals in 35 league games to complete the top of LaLala's score cards, Kylian Mbappe was back on the Scoresheet in the opener of Madrid.

Looking ahead to Sunday's game, Alonso emphasized the importance of the power of Madrid in -depth.

“I'm sure it's a special match for Oviedo and his people,” said Alonso.

“Now we are going and for us it is also very important to keep growing away from home, to be competitive, regardless of where we play, to keep giving a good level. It is the third week since we started, but we are looking forward to tomorrow's game.”

“We have only played one game and statistics have to be taken with a grain of salt. All players are important, and I count on it, and because I make the call, everyone can be a starter.”

Oviedo is playing their first LaLala fixture for the first time since the 2000-01 season, after he had fought his way up through the Segunda Division play-offs from last season.

Historically, Oviedo struggled against Madrid, only won 14 of 85 earlier meetings and lost 55.

The most recent matchup between these teams was in the Copa del Rey in November 2002, when Madrid won 4-0.

Players to watch

Real Oviedo – Santi Cazorla

Cazorla led Heroicicic led Oviedo back to the best Tier in Spain last term, although he has since announced that this will be his last season in professional football.

Although his game has mainly been reduced to off-the-bank cameies, the former Spain International came up last season with five goals and three assists, which are crucial, twice in the play-offs of the promotion.

Real Madrid – Arda Guler

Guler played sporadically in the last term and made half of his Laliga performances off the bank (14), but the Turkish star seems to enjoy a long -term spell in the starting XI with Jude Bellingham absent due to injury.

The playmaker received a starting berth against Osasuna and registered the second most fit in the last third (47), only behind Alvaro Carreras (64).

Match forecast: Real Madrid Win

Despite their big general record against Oviedo, Madrid did not win in one of their last four Laara-road matches against them, three signs and there has been losses since their 3-2 victory in the old Carlos Tartiere in September 1996.

This marks Madrid's longest Windless Streak on Oviedo's Ground in League Play since November 1952, when they went eight games with three draw and five losses.

These teams last time they met in the competition, in June 2001. The match ended 1-1, with three of the last four LA Liga matches between these teams that ended the level.

In the meantime, Oviedo has only achieved one victory in their last 11 LABERA meeting against Madrid-a 1-0 Triumph in December 1998, when Fernando Vázquez and Guus Hiddink were the respective managers.

Los Blancos has won 11 and has lost three of their last 14 league matches, and if their run continues without a draw, they can reach 15 straight LaLiga matches without sharing points for the first time since September 2016, when they recorded 16 victories and one loss under Zinedine Zidane.
