Arman Tsarukyan shifts acceleration after a brilliant version at KC 54
Tsarukyan was supposed to give UFC 311 in January opposite UFC light weight champion Islam Makhachev before he withdraws through a cancellation period due to a back injury. UFC Fan Favorite Renato Moicano was then promoted to the Headliner spot and fell to Makhachev in the first round.
Makhachev vs. Tsarukyan 2 was one of the most expected battles of 2025 before the last second of Tsarukyan. After withdrawing from UFC 311 and forcing the UFC matchmakers to become creative with the first pay-per-view headliner of the year, Tsarukyan will be confronted with another top UFC light weight before making the business for a title shot.
Despite the long path to the lightweight belt, Tsarukyan sent a message to Makhachev after beating one of his teammates in the well.
During his interview with KC 54 after the fight, Tsarukyan focused his attention on Makhachev when he was asked what the next one is.
“I need another man from the Khabib team,” said Tsarukyan.
At the moment, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Makhachev have not responded to Tsarukyan's comments. Makhachev is expected to return somewhere this summer to the Octagon, either for another lightweight defending defense or a possible relocation to Welterweight.
The next title defense of Islam Makhachev stays in the air after the dismissal of Ilia Topuria
While Tsarukyan and other top light weights are scrambling for a shot in the belt, Makhachev is thinking about his next movement. A potential super fight with Ilia Topuria is on the table for UFC 317, but Makhakev's fear when granting Topuria An immediate title shot has put the matchup in Limbo.
Topuria recently announced that he has to fight at UFC 317, whether it is against Makhachev or another top candidate such as Oliveira or Tsarukyan for a belt. An interim title match was thrown around in the midst of speculation that Makhachev could move to 170 pounds and possibly leaving the lightweight championship.
But from this letter Makhachev has not publicly clarified what the next step for him is in the Octagon. With Tsarukyan who takes a step back in his UFC status, and potential challengers such as Paddy Pimblett still removed one victory from making the case for a title shot, the next fight by Makhachev remains a mystery.
