Arman Tsarukyan confident of out-wrestling Ilia Topuria after seeing the ‘worst’ UFC featherweight take him down

Arman Tsarukyan insists that he would have little trouble compacting Ilia Topuria on the floor.

Tsarukyan is one of those who compete to be the first challenger of Topuria in the aftermath of the UFC 317-Pay-per-View last Saturday in Las Vegas.

In the main event on 28 June, Topuria Charles Oliveira hit out to win the empty lightweight title and to complete his climb to two -division glory.

Arman Tsarukyan emphasizes Bryce Mitchell's moments of success against Ilia Topuria

During a recent interview with former Fighter and UFC color commentator Daniel Cormier, Tsarukyan broke out how he would detect against the newly crowned champion at 155 pounds.

'El Matador' has not shown much of a weakness during his undefeated career, but the Russian-Armenian saw there at the end of 2022 when Topuria Bryce Mitchell submitted to UFC 282.

Although the implementation was largely dominant for the future champion at the time, he became at a certain stage that he was removed and checked on the ground. And if the “worst” featherweight can do that, Tsarukyan expects to have a comfortable time that replicates the performance.

“I just need the fight and (I will) show everyone that I am another hunter,” Tsarukyan said. “I have improved so much.

“I looked at his first fight and he was struggling a bit and he got so much tired. And he never fought with wrestlers like me, who knows as freestyle struggles.

“Bryce Mitchell, he is the worst hunter in the 145 (division). He took him (Topuria) and held him,” Topuria added. “Even he took him down and he could not escape like a minute.

“I can see that it is not high.”

Tsarukyan was present at UFC 317, after he was successfully weighed the day before as the most important backup of the main event.

But that combat week weight and his status as no. 2-ranked competitions were not enough to ensure that he would be rejected with the headline winner in the T-Mobile Arena of Las Vegas. Instead, Topuria was confronted with bitter rival Paddy Pimblett before the security intervened.

'Akhalkalakets' was not surprisingly left furiously by the snub.

“It was never supposed to be Charles,” Tsarukyan wrote on X. “I can finish Ilia, so simple. And he knows it too. That's why he avoids the real #1 competition.”
