The sizzling form of Mohamed Salah makes it harder for Liverpool to expand his contract, boss Arne Slot joked on Tuesday morning.
Salah has scored 30 goals and registered another 21 assists this season in some stunning figures – but the Egyptian is without a resolution in the summer.
Liverpool wants to extend the deal, but has not found an agreement, while Salah has been registered several times and says he would like to expand. And lock joked that the form of his talisman only strengthens the hand from Salah to the negotiating table.
“You can look at it in both ways,” said Reds' boss. 'You can say the better he does, the more expensive he could become and if he really did it worse, we would be approaching times to extend his contract.
'For everyone it is the best that he brings the performances he is doing now, perhaps only for those who have to pay him, it's not the best! It is the best for everyone, because if you want to play at this club, you have to be at its level.
'Otherwise you are almost useless to play at this club, because we only need players who are at the top of their game.
'Because this is one of the best or the best club in the world to play for. He must have these versions to play here and hopefully to expand here. '
That was a rare opportunity that Slot went into the record with his direct desire for Salah to extend his deal. He usually laughs at the questions about contracts and the straight bat them, to the great frustration of the fan base.
Slot added that Salah is a top professional who determines the standards for the rest of the group.
“What I see is a top professional,” he said. 'Not only what you see on the field, but he comes in early, works so hard on his body.
'Sometimes I get to see a few Instagrams and I think he works at home too! I think he has found the balance to get the best out of himself, that is what is accompanied by experience and playing games at the highest level.
“He knows what to do to treat his body in the best possible way for him to get the performances he does.
'But he is not the only one, I see that everyone in this building works so hard, the players first to get the best out of themselves, but all employees work incredibly hard.
'It is February and we have three pitches that are perfect for us to train in the best conditions.
“It's not just about the players who have difficulty getting the best out of themselves, it's the entire building and all the people who work here to get the best out of the players.”
Liverpool host Newcastle on Wednesday evening and Slot has a relatively clean health glasses.
'Conor Bradley, however, will be out for a few weeks because of a muscle injury and Joe Gomez is an absent in the long term after a hamstring operation.
