Liverpool -Manager Arne Slot, who won the Premier League in his debut season, can see himself for a long enchantment at the English side, saying that the club and the owners both have a history to keep confidence in their managers.
Slot's predecessor Jurgen Klopp stayed in Liverpool for more than eight years and won the Premier League, the Champions League and the Club World Cup during his term of office.
Dutchman Slot, who said he was Liverpool's only choice to follow up Klopp, joined a three -year contract.
“I saw myself working here for a long time because it is a great club to work for and I am really happy here. This club has a history of having managers,” Slot said reporters on Friday.
The manager quoted Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger, who led Manchester United and Arsenal for more than two decades, as examples of the tradition of English football of long -term managers.
Slot also spoke about the Boston Red Sox, a baseball team that belongs to Liverpool -owners Fenway Sports Group, where Alex Cora ended the bottom of the American League East Division twice in succession.
“Not only this club, but also with regard to the ownership of it), because I now view a documentary about the Boston Red Sox,” said Slot. “Cora is still there.
“It is a combination of the club's history and how ownership works. So if there is ever a club where you can work for several years, it will probably be Liverpool.”
Slot said he was convinced that he would leave the Dutch side Feyenoord, where he served as a manager for almost three years, after he realized that he was the only person who wanted Liverpool for the job.
“I told my agent that if I am one of the three, I am not interested. I didn't want to go to another summer where I had to do all this kind of meetings and then waited, waiting, waiting,” he added.
“I didn't have to open my laptop once to show (Liverpool) what I did or how I worked. They knew everything about me.
“There was never any doubt and that was largely due to the fact why they wanted to and how they tried to convince me to come.”
