Arne Slot left sweating on two Liverpool stars as Real Madrid win marred by double blow

Arne Slot sweats on the fitness of both Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley after the duo suffered injuries in the win over Real Madrid.

Goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo saw Liverpool beat the reigning Champions League holders. Bradley impressed at right-back and successfully suppressed superstar striker Kylian Mbappe.

But he had to be replaced by Joe Gomez with three minutes to go after experiencing tightness in his hamstring. Konate, meanwhile, hurt his knee after a challenge from Endrick in the closing stages of Wednesday's match.

The French centre-back required treatment on the pitch after the final whistle before getting back up and limping. Liverpool have confirmed that both are to be assessed by the club's medical team ahead of Sunday's clash with Manchester City.

Boss Slot is already dealing with injuries to Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota, Alisson and Kostas Tsimikas. And the Dutchman is now sweating on the status of Konate and Bradley ahead of Sunday's blockbuster match.

When asked if he knew the severity of the duo's injuries, Slot said: “No, not yet. I know where their pain is, but how bad or how good is difficult to judge so soon after a match. This is what happens during a season.

“We missed Trent today, we missed Jota today, we missed Alisson today. We didn't miss Trent because he was on the bench but he couldn't play from the start, but we missed Kostas. I really hope that we both they are available to play because we want them all available.

“But if that's not the case, someone else has to step up and so far this season it's everyone who is me [have] selected to start has appeared. That is also what will happen on Sunday. If they can play, but even if they can't play, other players will go a step further.”

Slot will be desperate for Bradley to bounce back after his eye-catching display against Madrid. The Liverpool boss praised the Northern Irishman for his performance against World Cup winner Mbappe.

“I think it's nice for him, nice for his family, nice for us, but it's also really nice for the Academy, that a player coming through the ranks of the Academy is doing so well,” Slot said of Bradley .

“And it's not just him – Caoimh was excellent today, Curtis [Jones] was excellent today. They were probably all excellent, but to have three Academy players in your team doing so well is also a great compliment to the Academy that this club has.

“And Conor did very well. But it doesn't surprise me at all that he is doing so well, because he already showed that last season and has also shown that in training and competitions this season. So very nice for him.”
