Arne Slot gave an injury update about Alexis Mac Allister after the midfielder was omitted on Monday from the victory of Liverpool over Newcastle.
After they had taken a lead of two goals in St James' Park, the Reds on the northeast saw only one point before the 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha got off the bank to get a dramatic winner of the stop time.
In the result, Liverpool maintains their perfect start to the campaign while trying to defend a successful defense of their Premier League title.
Mac Allister was an integral part of last year's triumph and fans of Liverpool will undoubtedly sweat about the possibility of being without the midfielder, who came to the club from Brighton in 2023.
Slot, however, stated that he is optimistic that the Argentina International will soon return to the fold.
“We hope, yes,” said the Liverpool.
“He had to leave the training field two days ago. And that would not have been the biggest problem if he had a good preseason.
“But he missed so many weeks and there is a reason why he goes in because he probably feels something.”
'That is the difficult balance to make for the players who have not had a good preseason. Because you bring the base there all season.
“And we confronted these intensity levels (against Bournemouth) last week and this (in Newcastle) was ten times I think about.”
MAC Allister has passed a disturbed president to struggle with injury to the back-end of the Liverpool title-winning campaign.
The Reds play host for Arsenal and Slot on Sunday that he is hopeful that Mac Allister will be fit to be involved against the Gunners in Anfield.
He continued: 'You have to be like that, so fit.
'Then it is a risk if you bring a player who did not have a good pre-season, in this environment, with such a long season to go, it was an excess risk for me.
“But I hope I hope it will improve in the next or two days, so it is available for Sunday.”
