Arsenal 1-0 Newcastle – PLAYER RATINGS: Who looked sluggish for the Gunners?

An excellent Declan Rice Strike yielded Arsenal a 1-0 home victory on Newcastle to secure a place in the Champions League of next season.

The side of Mikel Arteta knew that the victory in their last home game of the campaign would ensure that they finish second in the Premier League of this season.

Newcastle, who could have intervened Arsenal with a victory, saw their hope dented by the absence of top scorer Alexander Isak by injury.

The Gunners took care of the essential breakthrough in the 55th minute, with Rice curling a good effort past Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope.

While the victory confirmed the Champions League spot of Arsenal next season, Newcastle Everton must beat next weekend next weekend to seal their place in Europe Elite Club competition.

Isaan Khan van Mail Sport was with the Emirates and is up to the players of both parties.

Arsenal (4-3-3):

David Raya: 8

Bad pass to Sandro Tonali early, but then made a series of important rescues to keep Arsenal in the game. That included a reflex saving on the header of Dan Burn van A Hoekkick.

Ben White: 6

Sometimes seemed slow in the backline, especially in the first half. Required his teammates to intervene in some defensive scenarios. His shot at 69 minutes just whistles wide.

William Saliba: 6.5

Did well to cover white on different occasions. Replaced during the break.

Jakub Kiwior: 7.5

Stuck with solid challenges and looked insured. Was helped without Alexander Isak to contend with.

Myles Lewis-Skelly: 7

Comfortable in possession and good outbursts in tight pockets of space.

Martin Odegaard: 6.5

Had sprints on the ball forward. Assisted Declan Rice for his goal with a well -executed pass.

Thomas Partey: 6.5

Provided the required defensive coverage for the back four. Deep deeply to spread the game.

Declan Rice: 7.5

Not at the start of his usual standards, but pulled a well -damaged finish in the top left corner to score. Stand to the board again.

Bukayo Saka: 6

Saw more of the ball in the second half. Newcastle was wary for the winger, so ensured that the offer to him was limited.

Leandro Trossard: 7

Well drunk. Looked alive on the ball and kept making things happen.

Gabriel Martinelli: 6

Lack of end product. I sometimes felt isolated on the left flank.

Leek a weak line in the defense and was lightly dominated by the opposition Vooruit.

Made important tackles when trying to keep the Arsenal attack at bay.

Dan Burn: 7.5

Made some class through balls and a few crunching tackles. Forced Raya in a large salvation from his header.

Jacob Murphy: 6

Did not have the impetus to make meaningful attacks and to break the opposition lines.

Bruno Guimaraes: 7

The Newcastle architect in the middle. Involved in many of their build -up game and helped to play.

Sandro Tonali: 6.5

Had a good chance early when Raya spent the ball to him. Put in a real shift and needed more from his teammates.

Tino Livramento: 6.5

Made an attempt to get ahead of attacks and was in threatening positions a few times.

Harvey Barnes: 6

His slaloming run at 16 minutes, while he ran through several players, resulted in a saved shot. But needed to offer more.

Anthony Gordon: 5.5

From the boil. Signs of promise when he got the chance to run to the backline of the opposition early, but was not often enough. Gave the ball away in the structure of Rice's goal.

Made a number of good runs, but did not receive the ball when needed. A calm display.
