KAI HAVERTZ fired Arsenal back into second place as they desperately tried to keep pace with Liverpool.
The German, who started with Gabriel Jesus in midfield, showed sufficient composure in front of goal and cleverly turned the ball in midway through the first half against Ipswich.
Jesus later put the ball over the line – with Gabriel Martinelli hitting it into the back of the net – but the ball was disallowed for offside.
Havertz, Gabriel, Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice may all have felt they could or even should have extended Arsenal's slim lead in the second half.
But in the end, one goal was enough to leapfrog Chelsea and close the gap on the rampant Reds to six points, while Ipswich remain 19th.
